More technical and complex chandeliers continued to be developed throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, but the widespread benefits of gas and electricity acquired devalued the chandelier's charm as a status symbol.
Toward the ultimate end of the 20th century, chandeliers were used as decorative focal points for rooms often, and did not light up often.
